A quote from one of our patients:
“I went from not being able to walk into the grocery store without grabbing a cart due to the pain, to walking around London and Italy with my wife for her 50th birthday.” – Doug F.
“I feel younger, and better than I have since I was in my 20’s.”
“I’m happier, and as a result my husband is happier!” – Terri N.
If you’re like most people searching for physical therapy in Scottsdale, you’re probably wondering:
How do I tell them all apart? Do I just call around and see who takes my insurance?
Most of our patients had the same question on their mind. And just like you, they feel overwhelmed with their choices. When you have so many choices and you don’t feel confident that you can compare them all, you start to get anxious about choosing the right one. One of our patients Terri told us that “trying to figure it out on your own, can give you a lot of anxiety.” By the time she came to see us, she had tried a number of things she found online, but she was frustrated that her pain would behave inconsistently, and sometimes it would help, but other times it made it worse. She found that she couldn’t be as effective at work, or as engaged with her family at home. She was beginning to feel exhausted from constantly dealing with aches and pains. That’s when she knew she had to do something different.

Have you experienced something similar?
What most of our patients tell us, is that they didn’t really think physical therapy was going to work for them. They have tried physical therapy in the past, sometimes for months on end without a change. Our clients Doug told us “I looked and looked and looked. People like this are very hard to find.” Doug’s frustrations with his physical therapy experiences in the past included.
- “They seemed more concerned with putting me on hotpacks and cold packs.
- “They seemed more concerned with their documentation, than with me as a patient.”
- “They always handed me off to some assistant, gave me the same exercises they gave everyone else with back pain, and told me ‘have a nice day’.”
- “When my pain wasn’t changing, there was never a good response as to why.”
- “They only focused on one body part, not how everything works together.”

Please Take A Few Moments To Read What Our Clients Have To Say About DPT
When I lost my ability to stand and walk due to severe sciatic pain, I tried everything to fix my leg: back surgery, physical therapy, pain management, spinal injections, spinal eletrostimulation, acupuncture, massage, dietary analysis…. Nothing helped at all. Then I found Dr Padilla, and he gave me back my life! When you go through this, you learn how many things you can no longer do if you can’t stand or walk. Now I’m back to walking 3-4 miles a day; I can lift and hold my grandbabies; I can go to parties without having to sit in a corner; I can go shopping again.
What was different about Dr Padilla’s approach is that he carefully analyzed the root cause of my problem. All the other doctors I had seen were focused on alleviating the symptoms. Once Dr Padilla identified problem areas, he worked with me to test his hypotheses and then to fix the specific problems he identified through a combination of physical therapy and referrals to some very unique specialists, including one who could repair muscle tears without surgery and even one who could help me cope with the mental and emotional challenges that I am convinced contributed to the problem.
I can’t speak highly enough of Dr Padilla and his practice. They are professional, caring, supportive in every way. I only wish I had seen him before all my other attempts. His method is virtually risk free, and I could have avoided a lot of doctor appointments and needless and expensive treatments, not to mention losing a couple of years to my other attempts.
I feel so thankful to have been recommended to DPT by a friend few months ago! Dr. Tom and Dr. Jessie have helped me so much! I have had trouble with my lower back for years, since college and now I’m in my 40s. I would have spells off and on over the years where my back would go out and I would be down for a week or two. I have always been active, and I enjoy exercising and playing sports especially with my family, so it was a continual frustration to be out of commission during those times. Not only that, but regular household tasks like mopping, vacuuming, putting sheets on the bed, etc., became things that would randomly set off my back and put me in bed for several days. Chiropractic would help temporarily but it never seemed to last. The last few years the spells came more frequently and lasted longer, until this past March when my back went out and I was down for 2 months, spending much of the time in bed. After trying massage, chiropractic treatments, X-rays that showed nothing specific, I was ready to get an MRI and see a surgeon. That’s when my path crossed DPT’s. I was skeptical of physical therapy because of what I’d heard from others’ experiences, but I was ready to try anything. From my first visit to DPT, I felt hopeful for the first time in years that I could be active again and get over my chronic back trouble. They found that one of my hips was rotated out of position and probably had been for long enough that certain muscles in my back had stopped working completely and others were working incorrectly to compensate. I was assured I didn’t need an MRI or surgery, but simply correction of that misalignment, re-teaching the muscles how to work and work correctly, and then strengthening them. It sounded so simple and made so much sense, and what a relief to learn that I didn’t have a lifelong condition that I just had to live with or attempt to fix with surgery, as I had been told before! I have been so impressed by the one-on-one sessions with the doctors at DPT…no handing off of the patient to interns, aids or assistants…you’re with the doctor the whole time! The staff is so friendly and caring, and have been wonderful, patient listeners to all my concerns and questions. After less than 3 months, I’m amazed at how much stronger I feel, and at how much I’m able to do now without pain. I’m so happy to be able to get back to exercising and playing basketball with my boys, without having to worry about being down for several days from over-doing it. It has been wonderful to learn that my back issues were not just something I had to live with as a result of getting older! I want to shout it from the rooftops that if you have back trouble, you don’t just have to live with it, and don’t assume you need surgery…you just need DPT!! 🙂
Started working with DPT due to lower back pain where I could barely bend over to pick something up without extreme pain (with 5 kids, this was a big problem!). I worked remotely with Jessie, and was so very pleasantly surprised with how well things went via Zoom. Over the course of 10 hour-long sessions, there was 1 or 2 short instances where it would have been better to be there in person. Jessie also had lots of different exercises to try in case I didn’t have the exact equipment she had in the gym. I had tried physical therapy with other practices, and was told I had tight hamstrings. After years of stretching my hamstrings, I still had back pain. Jessie quickly identified several muscle groups to strengthen, recommended stretches, and taught me mobility exercises that have helped tremendously. I bend over without pain now! I would definitely recommend DPT – the staff is very responsive and kind, the doctors are extremely knowledgeable and great at explaining things, and most importantly, they get you the results you need.
My friend referred me to DPT because I was complaining about shoulder and back pains. Though my lower back pain was chronic, the shoulder pains were relatively new and were limiting my ability to work out, swim and sleep.
I had hesitated to visit them because I have experienced disappointment with some practitioners after their initial consultation. That is not the case with Dr. Tom and Dr. Jessie. Their knowledge and ‘bedside manners’ are an awesome combination of clarity of purpose and ease in practice.
Within 6 appointments my shoulder pain disappeared, but had migrated to another area. As these new symptoms appeared Dr. Jessie pivoted and addressed them but never lost focus on whole body movement. I even joke with her that they must be practicing some sort of magic because implementing the exercises mysteriously made pains disappear.
Of course, their work isn’t a mystery if you do the work, but joking and feeling at ease is an apt description of the environment they created. And the captain of this ease is Lesa. Yes, she is organized and always in front of billing and insurance issues before they ever become anything, but she greets everyone as family. I just love going to my appointments. Don’t ever go changing, it’s awesome just the way it is. Lol!
I initially went to DPT after not making progress with a hip issue at a physical therapy location recommended by my primary care physician. I had already scheduled a consultation with a hip surgeon for a hip replacement.
My wife was going to DPT and suggested I try it before seeing the surgeon. At the time, I could not walk for more that a 1/4 mile before my hip and one knee began hurting.
When I went to DPT, the cause of my hip pain was explained to me and I was given exercises to do to help alleviate the pain. The exercises worked quickly, and with each subsequent visit the exercise routine was adjusted to help me improve.
When the hip issue was under control, we started working on other joint issues, and I have continued to improve. I can now walk 3 1/2 miles with no problems and I am building up to go further.
So, the moral of the story is don’t be too anxious to get a surgical consultation because it’s very likely that all you need is some good PT.
After years of bad stroke technique, I could barely lift my right shoulder to swim. Private coaching, physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage helped — especially the coaching — but did not resolve the problem. A March 2020 right thumb surgery didn’t help. I was ready to give up swimming. As I was leaving the pool one morning in June, I struck up a conversation with one of my pool mates who told me that she had been working with Dr. Jessie for a similar problem. I immediately scheduled a consult. After a thorough examination, Dr. Jessie told me essentially that my shoulder was the victim of issues with my abs/hips. We began work that day. I have had excellent physical therapy in the past, but the focus was always to try to resolve the immediate issue i.e. shoulder hurts, let’s make it not hurt. DPT on the other hand, diagnoses the cause of the problem and digs in to help you correct it. I am now doing strength training with Dr. Jessie and am doing things I never would have imagined possible. (You want me to do what???) I feel strong and connected. I can dance without my right hip collapsing (an added bonus). My stroke gets better every day. DPT’s entire staff, the doctors and Lesa, are upbeat and encouraging. The doctors’ skills unsurpassed. I am grateful to have found them.
I started with The Doctors of Physical Therapy almost exactly a year ago and I can not say enough good things about my experience with them. I came in suffering from frozen shoulder. I had tried various other PT and medical injections to treat my shoulder for several months before with no prolonged progress. I realized that I needed something better. I love that I received one-on-one physical therapy the entire hour of my treatment. In the past I had been transitioned to working on my exercises on my own, and this was clearly not working for me. All of the staff at The Doctors of Physical Therapy are amazing and truly care about your progress and well being. The Doctors of Physical Therapy worked with my on my challenging schedule in order to get me the sessions I need within my availability. Prior to me starting with The Doctors of Physical Therapy I could barely lift my left arm to waist height due to frozen shoulder, I have now been able to resume all desired physical activity and am continuing to see progress. What I truly loved about the treatment I have been receiving at that the Physical Therapists is that they treat the whole body and listen to me and about everything going on as a result of the frozen shoulder as opposed to only focusing on that one symptom. I could not recommend The Doctors of Physical Therapy more to anyone that needs physical therapy, especially to those that have not seen results from other physical therapy treatments.
I have been going to Dr. Tom and the DPT staff for a few years. I was suffering from lower back pain, tingling hands and legs, a burning sacrum, and had seen over 10 medical professionals who could not fix the issue. I am young and love to be active, so fixing the issue was a huge priority to me. Dr. Tom was the only person who could pinpoint the problem and work with me to overcome the chronic pain. My progress was not always linear, but I always felt confident in Dr. Tom and his team that I would get back to my active lifestyle at some point, no matter where I was at in my journey. I am now pain free, and could not have happier with the service I received from Dr. Tom and his team. It was a great investment and I would recommend DPT to anyone who is suffering with pain.
DPT has improved my quality of life and activity tolerance. The staff is passionate, kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Prior to starting therapy, I had become “dependent” on the use of trigger point balls, deep massage with elbows, and over stretching. All of this would only give me temporary relief. Since starting treatment, I don’t obsessively need daily relief tools because I can hardly feel my pain. I am also able to Increase exercise without as much fear of aggravated the pain. I highly recommend them! Worth every penny spent!
I severely pinched a nerve, It was so bad it got to the point I was unable to properly flex/contract my Pec or Tricep. I have been a gym regular for years, and it has been a large part of my life. So being unable to really engage my right side was devastating. I went to a couple doctors in the hopes of getting this fixed, with no luck. Finally ended up at DPT and so happy I did. Not only were they able to diagnose the issue right away they also worked very closely with me and developed a plan to get me back to 100%. Didn’t take long for me to be able to use those musicals again! Armed with the knowledge gained from my sessions I am regaining my strength. No words for how grateful I am!
I was in hip pain for three years; the throb, pinch, and tightness was all day and night. I stopped exercising as well as unable to sleep on that hip!
Last month I was blessed with a referral to The Doctors of Physical Therapy. After only a few sessions (along with strength exercises at home)…I can’t believe that I’m pain free! I’m back to spinning, hiking and
best of all, sleeping like a baby!
I highly recommend DPT to lift your spirits again. The staff is knowledgeable, kind, and empathetic. They teach you how to live and stay pain free, for that I’m grateful!
The Doctors of Physical Therapy are amazing! I was having hip pain that kept me from progressing with my fitness goals. I chose DPT because I knew that they would treat the cause of my pain, not just the symptoms.
With just 5 sessions of seeing the Doctor’s of Physical Therapy, I not only had relief from some of my pain, but I now know why I was having so much pain, and they set me up with a treatment plan to get me back to running and squatting at the gym pain-free. The staff at DPT know their stuff and are able to communicate the details in a way that makes sense to someone with no medical knowledge – I would highly recommend them for any of your physical therapy needs!
I have had lower back and sciatica issues for the past 10 years. I’ve tried everything from traditional physical therapy and chiropractic to cortisone epidural injections. None of which lasted very long term and I always end up back in pain. Since being recommend to DPT and starting therapy, my back pain is almost gone. Before my first session I couldn’t even bend down and touch my toes, get dressed in the morning without pain, sneeze or cough without pain every time. By the end of the first session, I could bend over with minimal pain! From that moment, I knew I had finally found the solution to my pain and my quality of life was about to turn around. After 2 months, my pain is almost completely gone and now I have the resources (stretches/exercises) for those days I do have some pain. I can’t thank the doctors of physical therapy enough for giving me hope for a pain-less future!
I have had various back and neck issues. Partly from a whiplash and scoliosis contributes to my back issues. I now have osteoporosis. As a result of this I had 3 compression fractures. After 3 months in a brace and using home PT care it was time for outpatient. I could barely drive and could not bend over or turn my body. I was lucky enough to find Doctors of Physical Therapy. I have never (I’ve had several) found anyone to have the knowledge to help me in the way they have. It has taken a year but they have me back dancing, able to walk distances, travel, bend over (yes that took awhile to do after back break) take care of myself and my house. I am stronger than ever. I am grateful that I could find them because I don’t think I would be doing as well if I had not had this type of therapy.
There aren’t words to describe how truly impressed I have been with the DPT and how thankful I am to have found them. The staff is incredibly professional, easy to reach, and responsive. Not to mention that the quality of care here is phenomenal. When I arrived, I hadn’t been able to raise my arm over my head for nearly 7 months. I have all but the tiniest bit of my full range of motion back and am almost completely pain free. Saved me from getting surgery (the initial reccomendation I was given). Would be 10 stars if I could rate it that high.
This place has been amazing! I have been dealing with an issue for almost 10 years and just thought it was something I’d have to live with the rest of my life. After just a few months of working with them, my problem seemed pretty much resolved, and I am super excited to feel my body getting stronger and better instead of more dysfunctional all the time. Dr. Tom is so encouraging and knowledgeable in so many areas. Highly recommend!
